New Ways of Knowing and Generating Change

Hello. I’m Sally Rose. Thank you for visiting my website.

I have extensive clinical and organisational experience. I’m here to help make sense of the muddles and messes we get into, intervene in recurring patterns and loosen the knots when things are stuck.

What is Therapy-Based Consultancy?

My therapy-based consultancy combines various areas of expertise and experience

Psychodynamic relational therapy – I am a UKCP Registered Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist (since 1990) and full member of the Bowlby Centre for Attachment-Based Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. I am a seasoned clinician with more than 35 years of experience in adult mental health in a range of clinical and workplace settings.

Supervision, case-management and role-based consultancy – I am a trained and experienced supervisor and case-manager of psychotherapists and counsellors and have offered role-based consultancy to many managers and people in emotionally demanding and psychologically challenging roles.

Psychologically informed management practice – In my 30+ years of clinical service leadership and management, I have integrated psychodynamic and relational theories with management principles and practices. This includes considering how dynamics and defences manifest at an individual, interpersonal and systemic level, impinge on and hinder the quality of work, and reduce psychosocial safety at work. Such insights can then inform and help support combining good authority with compassion and support.

Integrative Practice in Psychotherapy

As new understandings from neurobiology and psychophysiology came into psychotherapy and trauma treatment, my knowledge and practice developed to consider the role of the brain and body in experience and the need to work with them more actively in therapy. I developed the Workable Ranges Model and trained as a teacher of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction.

Workable Ranges Model

I devised the Workable Ranges Model, as a way for working adults to visually map and track calm mental and energetic balance and different states of instability and stuckness when it is lost. The model is used to increase awareness, inform changes and build the resources needed to sustain change. See animation, webinars and publications.

Mindfulness Practice

My mindfulness teacher training and experience of teaching Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction courses in the workplace, and mindfulness for managers enables me to use mindfulness techniques to connect with and work with mental states underneath the talk of talking therapy or training as well as to provide new insights into the nature of our minds. Mindful enquiry provides new ways of knowing and facing into the changes that are needed – either personally or professionally. See webinars and publications

Research

My doctoral study, completed in 2020, investigated the integration of the Workable Ranges Model with Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction training. The combining of therapeutic, pyshoeducational and mindfulness methods of learning and changing broadened and developed my whole practice.

My current practice involves integrating my wealth of experience, and the depth and breadth of my expertise to offer therapy-based consultancy with the possibility of looking through different lens and utilising different techniques according to the nature of work and the presenting issue/s.

In discussion with you, I will:

  • Draw on psychodynamic and relational theories to identify internal models, relational, individual and interpersonal behavioural, social and cultural patterns in relation to the situation you are seeking help with.

  • Introduce the Workable Ranges Model to explore your usual emotional and energetic bandwidth of balanced states, your thresholds of tolerance for particular states and your habitual patterns of stress reactivity and dysregulation. I will explain how the model could be used, to increase awareness and make positive changes, in your situation.

  • Make use of mindfulness to explore your levels of focus and distraction and the enquire into relationship between predominately thinking states and those based on being present in a more embodied and sensory way.
